Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Dating.

Many people who are on the fence with regards to joining an online dating site, I hope this blog will help you jump the fence one way or another. Online dating has become a mainstream service over the last couple of years, but people still tend to shy away or even feel a bit ashamed of trying it. Well the following are a few tips mapping out the advantages and disadvantages of online dating. Before you join a dating site, remember that every site has a different theme, features, focus or niche. For example, if you're looking for general casual dating sites, theres places like match.com and yahoo personals, where as other websites focus on areas such as religion, dating for professionals, gay dating etc. Once you narrow down your dating site of choice here are the things that you can expect:

Advantages:

1) You can remain anonymous with no commitment for as long as you want. Of course, if you're using an online dating site the point is to eventually meet someone, but being anonymous buys you enough time to only move forward with the dating proccess at your own discretion and when you feel comfortable and safe with it.

2) It can help you build your confidence by exchanging messages, flirting, and instant messaging with a handful of singles. You're playing the field and you can give yourselfe a confidence boost by becoming more and more comfortable with the process.

3) With millions of singles using online dating, the chances of you finding the love of your life is that much greater. It's a fun and safe way to get to know quality singles without having to invest so much time figuring out who it is that you like and dont like.

Disadvantages:

1) Not every online dating member is there for the same reasons you are. Some are there just to make friends, others there for casual encounters and others are there for extramarital affairs. It's very important that you're able to filter through those who are not sharing the common goal as you are.

2) Many people lie on their profiles. In many cases lies can mean that someone is cutting a few years from their age, trimming a few pounds, adding a few inches to their height, and fluffing their professional titles. Since there is a good amount of this activity going on, dont be afraid to ask the tough questions.

3) Results arent immediate. Like every good thing in life, it takes time! So remember to be patient.
